Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if I can’t afford to pay for vet care?
We take all major credit cards, CareCredit, and ScratchPay.
Why is veterinary care so expensive?

We recognize that veterinary care is a major expense for pet owners. There are several reasons:

  • The costs of our medical equipment and supplies are the same as they are in human medicine.
  • Veterinarians are highly trained, with at least 8 years of higher education and many hours of continuing education each year. Veterinary Technicians have at least 2 years of job-specific training.
  • Our facility is more than just a doctor’s office–we have a sterile surgical suite, digital radiographs, ultrasound, dental facilities, a large pharmacy, and a laboratory that is much more sophisticated than what is available at a human general practitioner’s office. Because of this, we can offer comprehensive care for your animals.
  • Inflation has particularly impacted the cost of medications.

We use several different distributors to find the lowest prices for your pet’s prescription drugs. We also use an online pharmacy for even more savings. Additionally, there are six things that you can do to save money on vet care:

  1. Spay or neuter your pet! This reduces the chances of cancer, roaming that leads to fights and accidents, and pregnancy-related conditions.
  2. Vaccinate! Treating the condition that a vaccine prevents is often 30x more than the cost of the vaccine.
  3. Keep your pet at a healthy weight. Overweight pets are more likely to suffer from arthritis, joint conditions, and cancers.
  4. Keep your cats indoors. Free-roaming cats suffer from injuries and illnesses much more than indoor cats. It is also the responsible thing to do.
  5. Keep your dogs safe! Dogs should always be on a leash when outside of a fully fenced yard. They should never ride in the back of trucks.
  6. Don’t get more pets than you can afford! Vet care alone for a new puppy costs about $950 for the first year, and you’ll spend at least that on food. A kitten costs $735 for the first year in vet care and that much again for food. Elderly pets cost even more to care for.
